Wow Richard. That's cool to hear. I was talking to someone this morning about the downtown area and he said that in talking to Ed Cross, Ed's predicting up to 10,000 people to be moving downtown by 2020.

Great post, Randy. It's was a lovely evening, and it's great to see downtown changing for the better. It's also worth noting that I actually BEAT Snow back to 1221 Broadway by riding my bike, rather than having to go to a garage and get a car, as he did.

You really Should find another source of information. Michael Li is well known in The Dallas area as a racist. He consistently argues in favor of and supports discrimination against white people, He supports racial quotas in universities so long as those work to exclude white students.

I don't think it is bad that they are having a hard time. Looking back, I'm sure a lot of Democrats wish they had vetted their 2008 candidates more closely. Instead, it quickly devolved to Clinton v Obama, with Clinton on the ropes by the Texas primary, where Obama delivered the knockout punch. I think it would be good for the Republicans to go into the summer undecided. Then the American voter could see that the Republicans had really vetted and were nominating a candidate they really thought would be the best president, as opposed to anointing one just because he has the best chance of winning. On the other hand, maybe I'm giving the American voter too much credit for thinking.

Thanks Anthony. Tomorrow I'll have an entry on the race leading into South Carolina based on some insight I got from talking to a friend there. New Hampshire's too much of an anomaly state so it's hard to really assess the impact of it. Huntsman's going to probably drop out after New Hampshire if he doesn't finish in the top three. South Carolina is really the jumping off state for the rest of the primary season and sets the field for Florida where I expect only the top three will compete.

Thanks for the correction Troy. Yea, I'm not the best at proofreading my stuff. Need to get a lot better.

Regarding the four days, actually there are only two days specifically allocated for elections in the Texas Election Code, the second Saturday in May and the first Tuesday in November. The other two days (February and September) were repealed by an act of the 79th Legislature in 2005. Not sure of the reasoning expect to reduce costs. So we've already started some consolidation of dates in TX. Who knows. Maybe they'll cut that date in May out soon. I know Houston has moved their municipal elections to November so they're trying to reduce the election dates.

Good points. If I recall correctly, Texas law provides for 4 election days a year (Feb, May, Aug, and Nov). I think 1 election day a year would be sufficient, and a reasonable middle ground. (p.s. typo in last sentence [uniformed->uninformed])

A couple of thoughts:

Anonymity - When I lived in Corpus Christi I had several letters published and more than once I received angry, disjointed letters where one could see the person sputtering and turning red. In our discourse on line at EN, some posters are hateful and totally lacking in any respect. As a Senior, I have many times been ridiculed for essentially being addled. Our society has seen a gradual and troubling erosion of boundaries, with protestors sometimes rallying outside of people's private residences. Anonymity can be awfully inviting today. That said, I have pondered many times about asking the EN mods if they would be willing to host a get-together of the posters to allow us to see each other as real people and not ogres.

Your Nov. 5th comment on blogs - You made the comment that any rational person would start a blog to have their thought aired. So, am I irrational becassue I haven't followed the same path as you? I wouldn't have been bothered if you had phrased it as a suggestion instead of cloaking it in a denigrating staement of fact.

Sorry you got kicked off; I always enjoyed you thoughts, even though I sometimes didn't agree with them. I've always used my real name on the comments blogs...if you don't have the guts to put your name to your comments, you prolly' shouldn't be makin' 'em. It amazes me how awful some comments can get.

Hope you're well...

i found this interesting. so many of the comments on EN are so crazy, obviously under-educated, and inflammatory that i assume it takes a lot to get blocked. matter of fact- i've sort of quit reading them since it has to be bad for my blood pressure. but i've never seen your comments as anywhere close to offensive as some of the crap they do publish.
