The first day, the first post
Last year I was just learning my way around this megafest of social media and Web 2.0 and really felt like a newbie. Even with the overwhelming experience of meeting so many creative and talented people I came away with some new ideas and new friends. Now I’m back and ready for the five days of fun along with 15,000 others.
Funny thing is I’m sitting outside the Bloggers Lounge sponsored by Windows Phone with other bloggers, some who are actively blogging even while we sit against the wall waiting for the doors to open at 1. It’s in our nature to speak out and share our experiences. Just a few minutes ago someone shared about an independent filmmaker who was promoting the world premiere of his movie last night on the streets in Austin, armed with posters and a staple gun. After all, this is SXSW where the big names of tomorrow start with their ideas today.
What I’m really curious to check into during SXSWi this year is the entire concept of geo-location, augmented reality and the world of touch interfaces. Finally the technology planets are aligning to change how we interact with the world. Apps are being created that help us connect and find each other physically. We can also share our physical experiences such as why cheesy burgers at Chris Madrid’s are just so good. We start that by understanding what Microsoft has planned in their mobile space.
More to come as the weekend progresses but I’m sure I’ll emerge from the experience with even more new ideas. For now it’s off to a session on auto info centers called Dude, This is My Car!
