UTSA’s Great Conversation

Great Conversation! Each year UTSA hosts an incredible event in February called Great Conversation at the Institute of Texan Cultures benefiting the UTSA Honors College. The event is a night of good food and table conversation on a variety of interesting and engaging topics hosted by UTSA faculty and leaders in the San Antonio community. The event was started by Dr. Harriett Romo and is modeled after a similar event at the University of Memphis. Throughout the years the event has grown and is a highlight for many San Antonians. As is stated on the event’s website “Food may be filling, but good company and conversation can keep you at the table hungering for more…”

This year several topics will be discussed by some great leaders in the community. Some of them include:

  • San Antonio: A Vision for the Future hosted by Julian Castro, Attorney at Law and 2009 Mayoral Candidate
  • San Antonio: Maintaining a Growth and Quality of Life hosted by Diane Cibrian, City Councilwomand, District 8, and 2009 Mayoral Candidate
  • Successfully Striking a Work-Life Balance hosted by Trish DeBerry-Mejia, Partner/President, Guerra DeBerry Coody, and 2009 Mayoral Candidate
  • What is the Future of Newspapers? hosted by Robert Rivard, Executive Vice President and Editor, San Antonio Express-News
  • The Political Landsape in Texas in 2009 and Beyond hosted by Evan Smith, President and Editor-in Chief, Texas Monthly
  • The Role of Athletes in San Antonio’s Future hosted by Henry Cisneros, Chairman, CityView
  • San Antonio Politics: Where are We Headed? hosted by Richard Gambitta, Ph.D., Director, Institute for Law and Public Affairs

Reservations are open now and can be made at the event’s website. Some of the tables are already closed and some will close fast, especially Dr. Gambitta’s table on San Antonio politics. There are many more topics listed on the website so the choices are pretty broad. I’ve attended for several years and always enjoy the conversation and opportunity to engage with other San Antonians.
